The Boy at the Back of the Class- 6 week reading planning focussing on the teaching of reading and covering a range of domains each week: Retrieve and record Vocabulary Inference Explanation Summaries and Sequences Prediction Each week comprises of up to 4 sessions, lasting approx. 30 minutes: Session 1: Modelling Session 2: Practice Session 3: Independence Session 4: Apply It is a 4 step approach to supporting children in developing an understanding of the text they are reading through specific modelling, scaffolding and explanation. The 4 step approach: Modelling : supporting children in understanding the concept and demonstrating how to develop key areas through clear explanations. Practice: allowing children time to demonstrate their understanding from the previous session through guided support and scaffolding. Independence: moving children towards developing their understanding through independent practice. Apply: children answering questions independently in a comprehension exercise covering all aspects of understanding. The planning consists of 30 minute lessons that includes guided practice and activities to explore the different areas of reading that supports children to develop a mental model of what they have read. The planning covers all areas of the reading content domains and explores them over the weeks alongside the text and enjoyment of reading.
