Based on the sample GCSE 9-1 assessment materials, these 15 extracts from the novel each have a similarly-styled question to provide lots of exam practice and revision.
Using the GCSE 9-1 sample questions as a guide, these 10 extracts and questions are designed to help students’ revision and enable them to practise the skills required in this section of the Literature exam.
Further to the extracts I made on part 1 of the novel, these 10 are based on part 2, chapters 20-39. They are closely modelled on the specimen assessment materials for GCSE 9-1 to provide relevant exam practice and revision.

Using the GCSE 9-1 sample questions provided by Edexcel for the nineteenth century literature component of the exam, these 12 extract questions have been created in a similar style, covering characters and themes from the novel to help with students’ revision and exam practice.
Similar to my free resources on Hard Times & Wuthering Heights, here are three more comprehensions: Dracula, Moriarty,(from Sherlock Holmes) & The Mayor of Casterbridge when he was a travelling worker who auctions his wife. They are similar in that there is a mixture of questions: information recall, vocabulary and language analysis. Each editable sheet also has a descriptive writing task. Suggested answers are also provided. These would be useful to prepare students for the demands of GCSE, as homework tasks, exams, tuition or for 13+ exam practice etc
15 key extracts and questions similar in style and structure to the GCSE 9-1 sample question provided by AQA which should provide effective revision and exam practice.
For Eduqas/WJEC, these 34 exam papers have an extract-based question, (but due to copyright no extract,instead there are page and line references from the Penguin paperback edition) There are also 2 additional questions on characters and themes, making 102 questions in all.
These 10 extracts and questions, similar to the samples provided by Edexcel for GCSE 9-1, look at key characters and themes from the novel to provide effective revision and exam practice.
For CIE literature, these 25 exam papers each have 2 questions. The first, as in the sample paper, is based on an extract, but due to copyright restrictions, only a reference to the extract can be provided, not the extract itself. (The edition used is the New Longmans Literature series(2000) ISBN 0 582 93446 7. ) The second question is a general question on character or theme.
Ideal for exam practice or revision.
These 3 comprehensions from Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels contain a mixture of questions on vocabulary, information retrieval and language analysis. Useful as a way of introducing pre-twentieth century prose, as well as introducing the types of questions which appear on the GCSE 9-1. 4 pairs of poems with questions designed for pupils to explore each poem, and then compare both. There’s an essay question on each pair of poems if required. The worksheets are designed for individual or pair work, to prepare KS3 students for comparative work at GCSE or to prepare KS4 pupils for unseen poetry. The questions look at meaning, structure and language. A short extract from the start of the novel, with questions on vocabulary, character, and language analysis, and a choice of writing task. It would serve to introduce KS3 students to the style of Dickens’ writing; to a memorable character, Thomas Gradgrind; to Victorian times, raising some of the issues encountered in GCSE 9-1 literature and to a piece of brilliant writing! Hope its useful! I’ve now added an answer sheet. There’s already a great revision guide on TES-thanks josim1. This is a supplementary revision resource: an amalgamation of notes and ideas on the theme of mothers & daughters and some key quotes which may help with revision.
A very straight-forward fill-the-blanks exercise to practise these frequently confused words. I made this for a KS3 pupil who just couldn’t get this right! It might help another student with the same issue.
