New AQA (2016) Physics P1 - Energy , Lesson 9 - Energy and Power

(0)
Complete lesson on energy and power. Starter - BoBs Big Five. Students answer 5 recap questions in the back of their books to review what they know so far, answers are included Main -Introduce power, the formula, how to rearrange it then an opportunity for students to test their own knowledge with a worksheet (answers included). Students then move around the room identifying different appliances, working out their powers in W as most are in kW, and then calculating the energy they use. Worksheet is differentiated and this is an activity using non-standard units (kW, mins, kJ etc), again answers are included Plenary - Bingo. students pick 9 values from the slides and then have to do calculations to clear their boards. All answers are in the notes.

New AQA (2016) Physics P1 - Energy , Lesson 5 - Kinetic and Elastic Energy Stores

(1)
Complete lesson on kinetic and elastic energy stores. Starter - Students start thinking about a factor which may affect KE Main -Allow students to think of the other factor which affects KE, then introduce the formula, some worked examples and then the opportunity for students to complete a worksheet (answers included, rearranging opportunities on the sheet). Then moved on to elastic energy, worked examples and then a worksheet for the students to complete. Finally a small practical looking at the energy in an elastic band Plenary - 6 questions on the material covered in the topic so far, answers are in the notes.

New AQA (2016) Physics P1 - Energy , Lesson 4 - Gravitational potential energy

(1)
Complete lesson on gravitational potential energy. Starter - Students start thinking about GPE Main -Introduce GPE, some worked examples and then an opportunity for students to complete a worksheet of questions (rearranging questions included). Answers to questions are included as part of a progress check. Students can then do a simple practical looking at their own gravitational potential energies Plenary - Link to a Kahoot! quiz

New AQA (2016) Physics P1 - Energy , Lesson 3 - Energy and Work

(0)
Complete lesson on energy and work Starter - Students think about work done without knowing what it is Main - Introduce work done, the formula, some worked examples, and then the students complete the worksheet (worksheet has rearranging opportunities), progress check as answers are on the slides. Then the students complete a short practical looking at how the number of elastic bands can affect the force needed to pull an object across the desk Plenary - Practical evaluation and link to a Kahoot! quiz

New AQA (2016) Physics P1 - Energy , Lesson 1 - Changes in Energy Stores

(0)
Complete lesson on changes in energy stores. Starter - Some true and false questions on Energy to address misconceptions Main - Intro to energy and the new 'stores' approach. Work through the different stores of energy, giving examples. The students then have a worksheet to complete. Energy transfers then discussed with a demo (as shown in the picture) and examples given. Students then move around a circus identifying energy stores and any transfers. Plenary - Three levelled questions (with markschemes) for students to answer
