SATs style texts with questions

With less questions than the usual SATs test, this resource was used in my class this week in an hour session, allowing enough time to discuss the vocabulary and practice answering questions worded in a similar way to the tests from the last two years. The theme is ‘Mummies’, which the boys enjoyed. This is a non-fiction paper, but with longer texts and no subheadings.

Introductory games, worksheet and golden rules presentation included, which should take a teacher and his/her new class all the way up to breaktime :-) Contents: speaking activity game morning starter printable/editable resource for the children editable powerpoint slides for the teachers, with notes attached The ‘passport’ sets up targets for the child for the year and provides a nice way to reflect throughout. Designed to facilitate a smooth start to the year. I also used the time we had to design a logo for the front of the passports- r you could just stick your school’s logo on the front.

To help your children create stories, they roll the dice and select the option that comes up. I did this with my class and they loved it! The funny thing is that when they roll an option they don’t want, they suddenly know what they want to write anyway, so win-win! :-)

Focusing on areas of weakness in my year group, I made a series of these presentations for the kids to prepare them for the reasoning papers. The independent work was a few problems from previous SATs papers. Hope they help!

I’ve used this as art lead to show my staff how to teach art in KS2. I’ve used Van Gogh as an example here to show hoe I would create a unit of work from his work, Cafe at Night.

Following the TES-recommended debate competition resource, this follows a similar, more structured format. A great speaking and listening tool which involves the whole class the whole way through!

These engaging, challenging debates fit into the new OFSTED framework, looking for emphasis on debate. Drawing upon reading, speaking and listening skills, these lessons have proven to be a huge hit with my Year 5 and 6 children!

All resources (including starters) included, including a link to the abridged and original text online. Through debate, comprehension and smaller written tasks, this frameworks a strong written outcome- great for y5-6. Assessed several times in some 'outstanding' lessons, this was the most successful series of lessons I've made in a long time, and the results were some fantastic written stories at the end!

8 different texts with main text and LA (lower ability) differentiated texts. These have been fantastic in boosting up my class' SATs reading scores. If this receives good reviews, many more will be uploaded!

Fantastic resource which gives the children a bit of theory before opening the floor to philosophical questions for debate. A fantastic time filler or, to be fully explored, a full lesson. Enjoy!

Focusing on self-improvement related to PSHE, this lesson was a big hit among the children in year 6. It draws upon a philosophical story called the Devil’s Gambit, relating to addiction, which I’ve adapted into a tale about bad habits. Note on the resources are in the Powerpoint presentation .

One of the best trips of my school year, this! A booklet with specific directions to exhibits and clear questions to help the children access the artwork. The pack comes with a parent letter template (editable) and a safety/behaviour briefing presentation. Enjoy the trip!

Concise, fun lessons which cover an artist’s work, a short discussion, skills practice and a short final piece. Can be easily extended if you want! With short explanatory videos to help teach.

A full day’s resources for the first day back, including informal assessment opportunities for writing, maths, speaking and reading: Morning starter (while children are registered): grammar, using an image to write sentences and identify word classes; Golden rules children decide as a class the rules for the year; Recount of holiday: writing assessment task; Maths treasure hunt which requires a little prep to hide all the tasks about the classroom/playground! Selfie biography task children get the chance to set goals and write about themselves. Reading task perhaps to precede a quiet reading time at the end of the day.
