This 30 page PowerPoint explains Fractions including: Denominator, Numerator Equivalent fractions Addition, subtraction, Multiplication and Division of fractions all with working examples Used with learners doing FS or GCSE many times, I thought I would share it for others to use The power point moves through each section and some slides have links to Videos I choose to use, feel free to check them out or delete as required, alternatively add your own. you may have that are more useful to your delivery style I usually accompany this PowerPoint with a fraction wall hand-out and supporting practice materials, for learner to practice with in-between each session. feel free to change, edit the resource to suit your delivery I hope that you find this resource as useful as I do when delivering this topic, look at the screen shot provided Please leave feedback on the materials should you decide to use this resource Regards Tony

Functional skills Scrabble board Maths

I use this with functional Maths Students, however this could easily be adapted to suit many different situations. when I deliver this the boards are laminated to allow learners to use dry wipe markers on the board. it is an updated version of the English one previously posted I usually get them to work in small teams to encourage healthy competition they love it. I ask them to describe what each word is/means and write the answers down on paper e.g. a perimeter " you have to add up all the sides". With each correct answer I allow them to use that particular word in the scrabble board. Each correct phrase awards them more words to use and hence a higher score, the team with the highest score overall wins This can be adapted for many different activities and learners within different areas encourages peer learning and also confirms knowledge, I have provided a Microsoft word example you can edit and a PDF for ease of use Great for lots of different age groups, can confirm understanding, learning is easy when it is fun! consider also my compendium of different games, better value I would really appreciate feedback on this resource Thanks for looking

Rounding and significant figure

I use this with both my Functional Maths students and GCSE students a lot the main presentation has around 25 slides with different examples of rounding and at 2/3 stages some questions to check understanding starting with Whole number examples using number lines and nearest 10, 100 and decimal places with appropriate intervals for checking understanding. final few slides include significant figures on each slide where examples are shown the powerpoint makes best use of animation to shown each step at the click of a mouse I have included the worksheets I use that are NOT my own, you can freely edit my Powerpoint to add images of your own worksheets, one of them is a tarrissa card game and a resource taken from Maths salamander these are not mine and are free. I have also included a speed test PowerPoint and a worksheet to put it all together and play a game, it works well learners have to work out the rounded figure within a 20 second time limit, could be completed in teams to promote peer learning Thanks for looking at this resource

Identification of Shapes Powerpoint

I use this regularly in delivery when looking at shape and space sometimes as an icebreaker and starter. The 23 page PowerPoint shows 20 different types of shapes, when the PowerPoint is in presentation mode and activated/started the learners have just 20 seconds to identify each shape I use this method to assess knowledge and understanding with many areas and will be posting others up to use, it is good and competitive either in pairs or individuals, can promote peer learning I have also provided the mark/answer sheet I use for this activity, great for lots of ages, you could easily add in many other types of speed test topics by replacing the items in each slide Hope you find this simple and effective resource useful Thanks for looking Regards Tony

A set of really useful cards 20 different scenarios/situations where learners have to calculate maths in the context of everyday situations, ideal as an Icebreaker, or for problem solving. I usually do this with a board game and the learners have to answer correctly when the land on a Q card get it right move forward 2 spaces, with help from a peer 1 space forward, help from teacher no spaces forward Laminate them and use them over and over again fully editable, put your own questions in with the template page Really good for confirming Knowledge and understanding I have included an A3 ludo board for use also ;) Have fun when learning is fun enjoy! Measure Shapes and Space card sort

I have been using this board and card sort set for confirming understanding and peer learning with Functional skills students for over 6 years now and it works really well I have also used this for fun GCSE revision, they took me a good while to create. What's in the set? An A3 Board for the cards Each board holds 12 matching pairs Ideally you would laminate the boards (3/4 needed) and the cards 84 in total (42 sets) Total cards 42 and 42 matching answers/descriptions to questions All brightly coloured with the backs, ready to print fold over and laminate, they are in a word format so you can edit them or change them as you wish, each back has a set number (use find and replace) to change the set number, so you can print off a few sets, saves them getting mixed up I usually do these for groups of two or three students to promote peer learning, split the cards up as you wish for different sessions, takes a while printing but worth the effort, great for encouraging team activities What's on the cards? 42 in total all around measure/shape with 42 responses/answers to match each card Naming shapes (most shapes) Area questions Perimeter questions Some volume questions Parts of circles Net diagrams This is a good resource to use as an activity or to confirm understanding at the end of a session, good fun, can be used with lots of ages depending on the programme they are working towards from Entry level 3 to Level 2 functional skills, primary or GCSE, great revision activity. . Thanks for taking the time to read about this, should you decide to use this resource please leave feedback, I would be happy to hear from you

Ratio Cards

I have made this great little set of cards to help learners understand ratios, I usually play a game with these such as snakes and ladders. I get the learners to play the game and when they land on a question square they have to try and answer the question they are faced with correct answer means they move forward an extra 2 spaces, help from the team move forward 1 space, help from teacher stay where they are. first team to complete with all players wins Great way to confirm knowledge and understanding cards have 20 assorted questions around ratios at differing levels of difficulty wi 20 questions and 20 answers fully editable, make your own questions if you wish print them and laminate them can be used for years! I have included the A3 Ludo board to play on as well enjoy

I use this to help my foundation GCSE students remember how to classify Triangles, learn the names and the types of triangles. It can be used as a great starter, coupled up with some worksheets before you move onto other aspects of triangle work, approx. 20 slides in the presentation I have added a couple of images, clear and easy to follow and understand They are fully editable for you to add your own slides or adjust the existing ones to suit your learners saving you both Time and effort I have also added a small card sort activity that can be used to confirm understanding, again fully editable and easy to use Hope you find this resource use, thanks for looking and happy teaching

Functional skills problem solving task with addition, subtraction, multiplication & division

This resource helps learners build confidence with the basic 4 operators in a problem solving situation. I use this regularly as a warm up activity or an Icebreaker when covering the four operators and have different variations. The learners each have a board and a sheet of diamonds (more than they need) they not only have to complete the maths problems, but have to decide which diamonds to use and where to place them on the board I usually laminate them and the resource can be re used This can easily be linked to different lessons or used to confirm understanding, works for level 1, Level 2 learners and really makes them think Can be used with all ages including adults on an apprenticeship programme I have provided the board, the set of cards and the answers I would appreciate feedback if you use this activity, thanks for looking at my resource

Adding Fractions the Easy way!

Adding Fractions the Easy way!

I work with learners all the time and the one thing I have found is that they really struggle with adding fractions with different denominators! There are a couple of different methods for adding fractions, the method I find to me the easiest one for learners to remember is where they multiply both denominators and take it from there To help learners understand the process I have devised a double sided fool proof sheet whereby learners can follow an example, try a part completed one, then one without any prompts. using also examples on the board I find they quickly grasp the concept, Just try to help here, this document could be a lifesaver! My GCSE group really took to these and can now complete adding fractions with ease! This is considered as the hardest process with fractions, but crack this and your learners will be happy Just £2.00 and could save you lots of time and effort I have also added in some Adding fraction cards as a freebie! Thanks for looking and happy teaching! Tony

I use this for two things: Problem solving and following instructions Learning and revising Times tables and other mathematical formula Easy to make 7 lolly sticks (jumbo lolly sticks) and the template it is a great revision tool learners just keep it in their pockets or on the desks Get them to follow the instructions provided fill out the template with coloured pens, pencils and write in the 5 most difficult times tables in the boxes, the second side can be edited with anything you like stick the templates to the lolly sticks it works like a concertina the can open it up and use the tables to help them, it really works well I prefer to use a full page label rather than glue but both work I have a short video/ image https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/506232814347665795/ The learners enjoy creating and using this I have provided a full colour instruction sheet and the template to work with feel free to edit to suit your learners Promotes problem solving and revision of times tables and any other rules that the learners need to remember When learning is fun it is easy! Thanks for looking Tony

Converting decimals, percentages and fractions

This resource has been created to help learners understand the technical processes on how to calculate and convert the calculations for each. The PowerPoint is Interact and clearly shows each step when in Presentation mode by mouse click. To support this I have also created an existing tarissa hexagon, a revision guide and table to enable them to understand how the derive at the answers and a conversion chart for them to understand the basics. The PowerPoint is fully editable you can change or add in whatever you like to the slides to suit your own learners needs I have used this with GCSE students and Functional skill learner with a good degree of success in enabling them to understand how to correctly calculate the conversions. In-between each conversion explanation I check knowledge and understand with worksheets, however they are not mine so I cannot share them with you, you could create you own or download some from a colleague on this website Thanks for viewing this resource, I would welcome some feedback Regards Tony
