The murder of Thomas Becket

Who was Thomas Becket, why was he murdered and why is this case significant. An easy to follow lesson that introduces Thomas Becket and includes a card sort of events of how his murder was able to happen. Including an engaging video that explains the timeline of events. The lesson considers the consequences and gives students an opportunity to analyse why it is studied. This fits well in a Medieval History scheme of work and linking with the power of the Church and the Monarchy.

Homestead and Pacific Railroad Act (Edexcel American West)

I have been using the textbook to ensure that my students are accessing all of the content available. This lesson focuses on the fact that the Civil War has happened and how it was able to lead to the Homestead and Pacific Railroad Act. Students learn about the Homestead Act and identify if it had a positive or negative impact. Then they use the information to fill in the railroad track about the Pacific Railroad Act. Finally, they acknowledge the consequences of the Homestead Act. Embedding those second order concepts and consolidating their knowledge.
