Created as part of a Literacy unit on 'Aquila' by Andrew Norriss. We looked at the features of explanation texts then children wrote their own explanation of how to operate a UFO. I have included two different templates for different ability children. Once complete, these made lovely pieces of display work. A template on which children can write a letter from Fern to her Uncle Zuckerman. The second file is for lower ability groups and it has sentence starters already on the sheet to aid children in their writing.

Whilst studying the BFG, I got my class to make their own Frobscottle using lemonade, ice cream and green food colouring. They then wrote up their recipes using these templates.

A set of resources made to aid the teaching of speech alongside reading 'Charlotte's Web'. One worksheet shows Templeton and Goose with empty speech bubbles so children can think about what they might say to each other. This is useful for lower ability children who are not yet ready to use speech marks in their writing. Another worksheet shows Templeton and Goose with completed speech bubbles so that children can "pop" the speech bubbles and write the dialogue with speech marks. The third worksheet in the pack also allows children to "pop" the speech bubbles but gives them a template within which to write the dialogue using speech marks.

During Black History Week, my class learnt about the passengers on the Windrush who were coming to Britain from the Caribbean for better prospects. They thought about how they felt as they were leaving their homes and boarding the ship. Then they thought about what it was like for them when they arrived here. How were they greeted by the British people? I asked the children to write from the perspective of a Windrush passenger stating how they felt whilst on board the Windrush and how they felt when they arrived. My class produced some very sensitive first person pieces of writing.

I read 'Aquila' by Ian Norriss with my Year 5 class and they loved it! While looking at explanation texts, I created these templates for the children to explain how they would operate their very own UFO. The children were very creative and loved this lesson.

A planning sheet on which children can plan a persuasive letter to Willy Wonka. The idea is for children to persuade Mr Wonka to make their chocolate bar in his factory. This sheet breaks down the letter into different paragraphs that the children should use.

Created while studying George's Marvellous Medicine in Year 3. I have included an example of a recipe for George's Marvellous Medicine and a blank template for children to write their own recipe. It makes nice display work.

A sheet designed to help Reception children with their reading skills. The sheet consists of a chart containing a repeated set of words. The child should read through the words in the chart to the best of their ability and as quick as they can. There is then a table at the bottom of the sheet, for the teacher or TA to fill in the the child's time. The more practice the child gets, the quicker their times should be. This is a great way to record their progress.
