One Less Lesson PPT, Worksheet EYFS/ Y1

This is a PPT I made and used to introduce the concept of finding 'one less' for the first time. The worksheet (with 3 levels of differentiation) is also included. I made this for my EYFS class, but it can also be used for Year 1. If you follow the PPT, it makes a nice lesson for the children. I teach Maths at the beginning of the day, so I started with some slides discussing the days of the week, names of the months in a year and the weather (the links to the songs I use are on the slides). We also do a 'number of the day' activity each morning, this is also included. This lesson is based on the song 'Ten Green Bottles'. After singing this song as a class, your children will be able to visualise taking one bottle away each time. As I showed them this, I also wrote the sums and encouraged them to do this on their own whiteboards. Within this lesson, I also showed them the subtraction symbol and encouraged them to make this with their arms and bodies for a multisensory aspect. I would encourage you to ask your children to go outside and if there is a suitable wall somewhere in your setting, put their bottles on, count them, then take one off each time. This concrete activity is really what helped my children to grasp the objective in this lesson. There are photographs on the PPT for a real life visual example if this is not possible at your setting. The worksheet asks the children to first count all bottles on a wall, then cross off one bottle each time to find 'one less' There are three options for this; finding one less with numbers to 5, finding one less with numbers to 10 and one for completing the worksheet independently. I hope you and your class find this lesson helpful and most importantly, enjoyable. Thanks so much for looking :)
CHILDREN'S QUIZ - YEAR 4, 5 OR 6, QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS, 7 ROUNDS

CHILDREN'S QUIZ - YEAR 4, 5 OR 6, QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS, 7 ROUNDS

(0)
This is a pub-style quiz that I created for my Year 5 class to play, as part of their rewards party that they had earned. There are 7 rounds in the quiz: a children’s books round, anagrams, maths, music, riddles, famous faces and a sports round. There is a joker card included that the children can use to double their points in any one of the rounds. All the questions and answers are included, so it will be very easy to carry out the quiz, you will just need to print a copy for each team. There is a teacher’s copy as well with all the answers on. The music for the music round is not included, but all I did for that round was turn the laptop round so the children couldn’t see the screen and then played the songs on YouTube. I have included some suggestions for songs you could use. The children really enjoyed the quiz. I can upload each round separately as well if anyone wants. Enjoy!

WWI Vocabulary

Some resources I used to help children with learning the vocabulary associated with our new topic about the First World War. The flash cards can be printed back to back, or separately then matched up. This works well in a small group and could also be used to play memory games with. Worksheets included where children need to cut out all key words and definitions then match up, this one is a good guided reading activity. Answers included.

Play scripts KS2 vocabulay

Here are some different resources and activities that I used with my Year 5 class when starting some new learning about play scripts: - A powerpoint presentation with images, for whole class learning about key words. - Flash cards which could be printed back to back, or separately to play a memory game with (all cards turned down, have to match word with definition), or for a display - QR codes which I put on display for children to search up on ipads and find out more independently - A glossary which could be printed for tables -Worksheets to match definitions with their meanings These activity ideas were recommended to me by our speech and language therapist and they worked really well with supporting the LA children who particularly struggle with understanding new vocabulary.

Reading Activity Low Ability Independent Tasks

I have a very low reader in my class. I like him to work independently to increase his confidence, also for times when there is no TA available these activities are very useful. The idea in each one is he reads the words with the pictures, then he cuts out all the cards then mixes them all up and has to read again and match. He sticks them together in his book so I can check afterwards whether he has read successfully. There are 7 pages here, some HFW for him to read and match to pictures, some numbers to match, some animals, colours, etc.

Comprehension Questions for The Indian in the Cupboard

Some questions I have created which cover the different assessment focus points for reading (these are labelled next to each question). There are about 5-6 questions for each chapter. In my class, the children answer these during their Guided Reading sessions the day after reading each chapter. There is some vocabulary included to be discussed and I have also added some QR codes linking to websites where the children can learn about Red Indians like Little Bull.

Add and Subtract Fractions with the Same Denominator Lesson Plan PowerPoint Interview Observation

(0)
I created this plan and PPT for an interview observation lesson in a year 4 class. Their topic was fractions. I used balloons (you will need a pack to use with the lesson) to teach the concept. Learning objective was to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator, but the plan first ensures an understanding of what denominator is. They loved it because the lesson was really interactive. I got the job!

I created these differentiated (mid, low, high) activity booklets for a year 2 class for World Book Day. Includes wordsearch, colouring in, describing the pictures using adjectives, etc. Some fun activities which were great for the children to complete throughout the day.

Shrovetide PowerPoint Presentation Ashbourne Derbyshire

This is a PPT I created a couple of years ago, which gives an introduction and some basic info about what Shrovetide is (a game played in Ashbourne, Derbyshire). I used this with a year 2 class, this could easily be used or adapted for use with another age group. A brief history of the game and a timeline of historical events happening at Ashbourne. A blank timeline at the end which could be used for ordering the events and discussion.
Chinese New Year Factsheets and Templates

Chinese New Year Factsheets and Templates

(0)
I made these fact sheets about Chinese New Year while on teaching placement in a year 2 class (could be used higher up the school also). The idea was for the children to look at the examples then create their own factsheets using the templates given (included), using some of the info/books/internet research. There are templates for different levels e.g. top ability has more space to fill, lower ability has less space and more is already completed for them. Factsheets created were about China and Chinese New Year. The children really enjoyed this activity. The factsheets could also be used as display.
Support cards for multiplying or dividing by 10, 100 or 1000

Support cards for multiplying or dividing by 10, 100 or 1000

I created these because my class were really struggling to grasp the concept of place value when multiplying/ dividing by 10, 100, etc. I printed out and laminated a copy for each child who were then able to refer to these whenever such a problem came up. These really helped with my class’ understanding.

Space Poetry Lesson Plan and Powerpoint

(7)
I created this plan and PPT for a job interview where I was asked to teach a year 5/6 class. I based the lesson on their two main topics which were Space and Poetry. I used the fantastic poem 'Six Ways to Look at the Moon' by Pie Corbett in this lesson - included. I also used another fab poem - included. Task was for the children to write their own version of Pie Corbett's poem. PPT easy to follow along while teaching. The 'Six-ways-to-look-at-ordering-a-poem' resource was used as an activity where I cut up the sentences and worked with a focus group to read, re-order the poem - this was great for discussion and for thinking about structure/ language in poem, etc.
