The Yorkshire English Teacher

I believe passionately in (trying) to provide engaging and somewhat unconventional lessons. Too often we may succumb to (due to the constant time pressures of teaching) the trap of overly prescriptive and reductive lessons that don't necessarily reflect our love of English. Hopefully these independently created resources will complement teaching across Ks3-Ks4 and focus on a variety of contemporary themes. There might also be a few 'classics' revamped and spruced up for the 21st century!

A useful resource to demonstrate to students how they can use the source / extract for AQA Paper and use this to continue the narrative forward. Question 5’s narrative prompt will be in someway thematically linked to the provided source material and so being able to continue the story (as the model shows) can help break writer’s block in a pressured exam situation. Student’s could annotate the response using the mark scheme (A05&A06) for success and potential improvements. Source is from 2019 Exam Series. Glossary is extended and provided and foot of model response.

Jurrasic World 'Descriptive Writing' revision Paper 1 Question 5

A complete lesson resource that provides exam advice on A05 and A06 reiterating the timings and the need to proof read work. It is themed around the ‘Jurrasic World’ trilogy of films with a starter asking students to develop their ideas from an image as a starting point for their creative writing. There is a cautionary slide there makes students aware of veering to far off the image or including ‘ridiculous’ ideas. The main activity focuses on the structure of writing ‘exposition’ ‘zooming in’ etc and explores how to approach images through a suggested ‘quadrant’ technique. The plenary looks at Michael Critchon’s original novel Jurrasic Park and how students can develop this further.
