This two hour revision session is designed like a walking talking mock, only there is more teacher modelling involved to ensure that students fully understand how to construct an exam answer.
This is a fully-resources scheme of work that I created for Year 7 students. After visiting a local primary school and learning more about the KS2 SATs requirements, I designed this scheme of work to ensure that our KS3 students continue to build on the skills learned in primary school.
Every lesson has a powerpoint, worksheets, homework activities, differentiation (including differentiated learning objectives) and there are assessment opportunities built into the scheme of work.
This is a 6 week unit that teaches students how to write imaginatively for the new English Language GCSE specification. My lessons are created for Edexcel, though of course the skills being assessed are the same as with AQA and other exam boards.
This unit will walk students through how to achieve highly in both AO5 and AO6, teaching them skills such as how to create imagery, use onomatopoeia whilst avoiding clichés, use literary devices for effect, use sentence constructions for effect, use other structural devices for effect, controlling both basic and more varied punctuation, and how to organise a narrative for impact. Included are also three grade 9 exemplars.
Also includes six weeks of homework relating to higher level vocabulary and spelling.

A two-hour lesson designed to help students revise/learn more about the theme of ambition in Macbeth. Students are then taught how to write an essay academically exploring this theme using an excellent model answer as a guide. There is high-level vocabulary work to help the most able achieve the highest grades. Graded outstanding in an observation.
A full marks Unseen Poetry comparative essay comparing how death is presented in Funeral Blues and Do Not Stand at my Grave and Weep. For Edexcel English Literature, however many exam boards have a similar style of question.
This 4 week fully-resourced scheme of work gives your students the opportunity to analyse, evaluate and compare famous speeches in preparation for writing and delivering their own (the spoken language endorsement). Through this scheme of work, students learn the terminology associated with the techniques they can use to make their writing more engaging (also excellent for the imaginative/transactional writing task) before analysing, evaluating and recreating them. This scheme of work serves as excellent practice for both Edexcel language papers, building in the spoken language endorsement in a useful way. Easily adapted to other specs.

A bundle of lessons specifically targetted at boosting progress in the Imaginative Writing sections of the English Language exams.
There are holistic lessons (exam skills and requrirements), model answers and specific intervention lessons on common areas of weakness.
This two-hour session teaches students what skills they need to demonstrate in the transactional writing component of the Edexcel Language Paper 2 exam. It includes a break down of the success criteria, an exemplar answer that can be analysed and then used as a model for writing, followed by an independent task for students.
A list of quite challenging spellings for KS4 students studying Animal Farm. Remember that students are assessed for their SPAG for this question (with Edexcel), and so higher level vocabulary is credit worthy.
EDEXCEL CONFLICT POETRY ANTHOLOGY - 9-1 SPEC
Each sheet contains 15-20 thoughtful analysis questions for students to answer on these poems. This would make an excellent revision task, homework task or consolidation of learning task.

An intervention lesson focusing on the transactional writing question on the GCSE English Language paper. This lesson teaches students how to craft an engaging and effective opening and includes a model.
A lesson teaching students how to analyse an extract from Shakespeare’s Macbeth. This lesson was used with middle-ability Y9 students - perfect for Y9/Y10 and introducing the Literature exam requirements in an accessible way. Can be very easily adapted to suit AQA. The extract being used is Act 1 Scene 7.
A unit of work where students explore features of spoken language, examining transcripts of popular television shows to help them understand conventions of this mode of language. A revision lesson on Lady Macbeth to help students prepare for the new 9-1 Literature exam. The lesson includes an engaging game of Quiz-Quiz-Trade to help students to recap their prior knowledge of Lady Macbeth, and an extract-based exam question (with model answer) to help students to revise exam techniques.
