It has columns on the right for Red, Amber, Green ratings and can be printed as a worksheet for students. Hopefully, it saves you a little time combing through the spec. This is meant to go alongside my extensive PLC Quiz that helps students work out their ability in the listening and appraising categories.

Music GCSE - generic classical music test

Here is a test with 3 questions/excerpts of 12 marks each covering baroque, classical and romantic music. Questions 1 and 2 contain scores to test basic theory. The test comes with a mark scheme and would be most suitable for Y 10 or rusty Y11. All three questions contain Youtube links for easy access to audio. Example questions: Using letters, what is the structure of this piece? Which key is the first section in? Which note values can be seen in bar 15? Which term best describes the texture in bars 14-17? From which period is this piece? (multiple choice) Which R word describes the fact that the tempo is not strictly adhered to? Other than tonality, what differences are there between the first and second sections of this excerpt? Please come back to review if you think this will help others!

AO3 vs AO4 - Paper 3 Extended Questions in Music Technology

This one-page worksheet provides examples and exercises to help students understand the importance of AO4 in extended answer questions. When I went on a course with the ex chief examiner, he explained that most students lost an inordinate number of marks because they did not understand this. Page 1 contains examples I made up, whereas page 2 contains a blank AO4 column for students to fill in.

Music Technology A-Level (Edexcel) This is a 34-page compilation of all Unit 2 and Unit 4 past paper questions relating to instruments and equipment (incl. all Unit 4 Question 4). E.g. Unit 2 2009 Q5b: “What percussive sounds other than a drum kit are used to drive the rhythm on this track?”. E.g. Unit 4 2016 Q4b: “Figure 1 shows delay, wah-wah and distortion guitar pedals. However, you will need to check the Mark Schemes for answers.
