This booklet is aimed at Key Stage four students who are undertaking
French GCSE and will assist them with their controlled assessment in both
writing and speaking. It offers the key language that the students need to
improve the quality of their writing while encouraging their creativity and
their independence. The students can benefit from the details and various
examples and step by step explanations on how to achieve A*. The use of
this booklet has proven to improve students’ levels not only in writing and
speaking, but also in listening and reading.
We have analysed the writing and the speaking criteria of various exam
boards and we came up with a simple and clear summary of these criteria
written in a student friendly language. These criteria have been divided into
four sections; each section corresponding to a GCSE level.
Also the booklet includes the conjugation of the 50 most used French verbs,
including the modal verbs, into different tenses (present, perfect, imperfect,
near future, simple future and conditional). This is followed by different
language structures which the students can use to develop their writing.
These structures comprise negatives, opinions, time, place, cause,
consequence, aim, condition, possession and opposition. At the end of the
booklet, students can find a very useful list of recommended idioms and
high level expressions.
This booklet can be acquired by schools to assist in improving their GCSE
results in French. Teachers can use this booklet to raise the numbers of
students achieving A*.
Grammar has become a central point of the new curriculum of Modern
Languages and teachers can plan grammar lessons around this booklet
which contains a comprehensive study of French grammar. Also, this
booklet can be introduced for Key Stage 3 students as a form of
differentiation. Equally, it can be used with post 16 students as a form of
challenging and encouraging independence.
