This lesson puts students into groups/pairs and gives them a literature extract. Students then design an exam paper based on the extract they were given. After this the groups/pairs swap and attempt to complete each other's papers. Peer assessment is then used by the original group to mark the exam paper they created.

I found this really effective on helping students learn what the exam paper was really like and what to expect from it. It also gave them a lot of new exam papers to practice with (useful when this unit is so new and there's not much in the way of specimen papers out there!). They enjoyed the ownership they got from creating and marking their own papers.

This resource contains the PPT presentation which goes with the lesson, which includes guidance on how to phrase the invented questions, and answering the exam paper. There are several literary extracts (for which I take no credit, obviously!) and a template for writing their invented paper on. Finally, there's a peer assessment sheet for them to fill in whilst marking their peers' answers.
