A fun maths activity for KS1 children, supporting learning about 2D shapes, number recognition, counting, sorting, matching, ordering and colours.
The resource includes 3 colour worksheets and the same 3 worksheets in black and white, each featuring a collection of different 2D shapes containing button-style dots.
Children can explore a variety of ways to sort, match and group the shapes using different criteria. For example, they could colour all matching shapes the same colour, find all shapes containing one dot, group shapes with pointed corners, or identify shapes with four sides.
Children can also count the dots inside each shape, record the number and put shapes into numerical order, such as 1 dot, 2 dots, 4 dots and so on.
Encourage children to explain how they have sorted their shapes and explore different ways of grouping the same collection.
The black-and-white worksheets are ideal for colouring and creating their own sorting rules, while the colourful versions support colour recognition and matching activities.
A versatile resource for developing mathematical vocabulary, counting skills, shape recognition, reasoning and early problem-solving skills through independent, paired or small-group activities.
