This is a lesson where the students learn to calculate speed. It has 5 algebra questions as a starter. Then you can go over rounding with the students, if you have mymaths there is also a link to that. Next you discuss the s=d/t triangle, there is a student worksheet embedded in here. There are clips of athletes, the students can time them and guess who will win, you then calculate the speed of all 8 of them to 2 d.p. A Calculator is embedded here to show them on the board how to work out the answer. Then go through each one and check the solutions by clicking on each box. Bolt makes as appearance and you calculate his time, then check by revealing the board he is standing next to. There are some swimming races to calculate how much faster the winner is than the World record. Finally, there is a top gear clip of a car and plane, you have to calculate the average speed, to differentiate that you could get some students to calculate the speed in Km/h or mph. It’s a fun speed lesson.
