Exploring, Creating, Listening and Responding

One Unit of Six Music Lessons

Reception and Key Stage 1

You do not need a musical background to deliver this unit.

Comprising of six, easy-to-follow, practical music lessons based around exploring and creating sounds through play and responding to simple musical directions.

Minimal resources required; a range of percussion instruments; simply use what you have.

Pupils learn how to;
Pupils learn how to;
• Use percussion instrument appropriately
• Follow simple directions
• Create a variety of sounds using body percussion and percussion instruments
• Identify a range of percussion instruments
• Articulate their thoughts
• Respond to musical directions for stopping and starting
• Control volumes in order that they become gradually louder or gradually quieter
• Conduct a group using four directions; start, gradually louder, gradually quieter and stop
• Perform as a group and evaluate performances

• Body percussion
• Choir
• Conductor
• Gradually getting louder
• Gradually getting quieter
• Orchestra
• Percussion instrument
