Hajj. Islam Practices (updated for AQA 2026 success criteria) features a scaffolded lesson sequence: retrieval starter, misconception clearing, bite-sized direct instruction, rehearsal, checking for understanding, and scaffolded exam task. This ensures every student transitions smoothly from basic recall to confident, independent writing. Includes a task support sheet for SEN. Minimal printing required. Exceptionally easy to follow for both specialist and non-specialist teachers.
LESSON OBJECTIVES
• Identify and describe the core rituals involved in the practice of Hajj.
• Explain the spiritual significance and sacred authority behind each ritual using scriptural references.
• Apply the PETS + PE framework to construct a fully developed Level 3 response for AQA 6-mark examination questions.

• Task 1: Retrieval Do Now (5 Mins): A silent, independent matching starter reviewing key vocabulary (e.g., Prophet Ibrahim, Kaaba, Quran) alongside a stretch challenge linking terms to scripture.
• Task 2: Fact-Check Warm Up: An engaging “Pay Attention” True or False teacher-led activity to dispel common misconceptions surrounding the location, obligations, and frequency of Hajj.
• Task 3: Direct Instruction & Comprehension: Structured explanation of key Hajj rituals (Ihram, kaaba, Standing at Arafat, Stoning at Mina, and Id-ul-Adha) supported by accessible text and targeted check-for-understanding questions.
• Task 4: Paired Explanation & Image Prompts: A quick 1-minute partner task where students analyse visual prompts to explain why Muslims perform specific rituals.
• Task 5: “Show on Zero” Interactive Checking Understanding Quizzes: Fast-paced, whole-class multiple-choice assessments testing ritual knowledge, scripture completion, and exemptions.
• Task 6: Silent Independent Exam Practice (10 Mins): Students complete an AQA 6-mark exam question utilising a structured writing frame, keyword bank. Includes exemplar model answer, and a higher-tier extension task.
MODERN PEDAGOGY INCLUDED
• Built on Rosenshine’s Principles: a carefully scaffolded lesson sequence to ensure every student transitions smoothly from basic recall to confident, independent writing.
