A calm, respectful and fully scripted Remembrance Day assembly for secondary schools. Any member of staff can deliver it with no preparation: every slide has word-for-word speaker notes, suggested timings and sources from trusted organisations.

The assembly runs for about 20 minutes. It explains why Remembrance began and what its symbols mean, then finishes with a timed two-minute silence.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

  • 20-slide editable PowerPoint (16:9)
  • Full speaker notes on every slide: what to SAY, what to DO, questions to ASK, and suggested timings
  • Source links in the notes (Royal British Legion, IWM, English Heritage, The Poppy Factory, CWGC)
  • Original illustrative artwork plus documentary photographs of the Cenotaph and the Field of Remembrance
  • Full text of In Flanders Fields (John McCrae, 1915) and Laurence Binyon’s “We will remember them”

WHAT IT COVERS

  • What remembrance means, including service personnel, families and civilians
  • The Armistice: 11am, 11 November 1918, and the first two-minute silence in 1919
  • Why the poppy? In Flanders Fields and the British Legion
  • The Royal British Legion and the Poppy Appeal
  • The Cenotaph and the National Service of Remembrance
  • The Last Post and the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey
  • Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday: how the two dates differ
  • Remembrance beyond 1918: WW2, Korea, the Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan
  • Service from around the world: the Indian subcontinent, Africa, the Caribbean, Canada, Australia and New Zealand
  • “One name, one life”: an enquiry into a name on a local memorial
  • A private reflection on peace and dignity, then a timed two-minute silence

WHY TEACHERS USE IT

  • Sensitive by design: no pupil is asked to share a family story, and wearing a poppy or donating is presented as a personal choice
  • Reflection questions with built-in thinking time, and no pressure to answer aloud
  • Works for whole-school, key stage or year-group assemblies, form time, and PSHE or citizenship lessons
  • Fits a standard assembly slot
