Separation Techniques Booklet IGCSE Chemistry {Edexcel 9-1}

The resource booklet covers the main topics on Separation Techniques.
I have essentially provided a workbook for the students that covers questions on mixtures such as a sand/salt using the techniques of filtration , evaporation and crystallization with students given a experimental design problem to solve , and questions to answer on how to obtain pure dry salt from that mixture. I have also included problem solving exercises on an ethanol/water mixture and a propanone/ water mixture and again students work through an experimental design issue and complete a series of questions on the separation technique of simple distillation. I have also covered chromatography again asking the students to complete a series of questions to cover this technique including how to calculate Rf values to two significant figures.
I have also included a multiple choice test for students to have their knowledge and understanding of the different separation techniques tested once the booklet is completed. All the exercises include extension questions to cover the range of abilities in the class. Finally I have included solutions at the end to all the questions and test set in the booklet.

Students write their answers directly into the booklet. The booklet will be a very useful revision resource on this topic once completed.

The resource is designed for IGCSE/GCSE Chemistry but is also relevant to Key Stage 3 Chemistry such as Cambridge Checkpoint Science where some aspects of separation techniques are covered.
