LESSON 5-8(QUAD): This lesson explores and introduces students to the notion of Media Industries with a focused study upon the Newspaper Industry. The lesson looks at the two selected EDUQAS Media forms; 'The Daily Mirror' and 'The Times' as well as other editions of these newspapers and others that covered Trump's election. It covers:
-Circulation
-Readership
-The publishing/print industry
-New versus Old Media definition plus exploration of the debate
-The 4th versus 5th Estate
-A contextual look at the Presidential Election to give students context for analysis of the newspaper sources.
-Who owns 'The Daily Mirror' and 'The Times'
-An introduction to Rupert Murdoch.
-A viewing and analysis of 'The Hacking Scandal' and Murdoch's BSKYB bid.

This lesson contains a H/W task based on the fact-sheets provided by the examining board as well as
a the creation of a fact sheet on the two publications. The lesson also contains an in-depth task sheet for Task 2 in the lesson which facilitates Discovery Learning and peer-to-peer learning with seen and unseen texts.

This will be uploaded as a series of lessons on Component 1, Section Band will be part of a group of resources with different theories/terms as headings under each Exam Component.

This lesson is therefore Ideal for those wanting to Team Teach or teach Component 1, Sections A and B at differing times.

NOTE: I am following EDUQAS Teaching Model 1 in my teaching/ SOW and my school is only providing Media Studies at A-Level, as a Two- Year Course. Moreover, each lesson has a task whereby students RAG (Red, Amber, Green) what they have learnt in the lesson against an Examiner checklist (Differentiation, peer assessment).

If you liked this resource and found it useful, it would be greatly appreciated if you could feedback or rate my resource as I am constantly trying to adapt and refine my resources to improve the learning of my students. Many thanks.
