This bundle contains a series of lessons designed for the GCSE 9-1 courses introducing types of ecosystem at different scales, biomes and their climate flora and fauna, rainforest location, structure, climate, water and nutrient cycles. lessons have examination question and mark schemes, peer/self assessment and differentiation incorporated into them. They also include a range of skills including comprehension, graph and map analysis and diagram design.

GCSE 9-1; Ecosystems- tropical rainforest water cycle and nutrient cycle

This lesson is part of a series of lessons available as a bundle. The lesson starts by reminding the students about the water cycle, which they will have studied previously. Next they are read a description of a the weather during a day in the rainforest, which they will use to construct a timeline. this will lead into an explanation of convectional rainfall by the teacher, which is support by diagrams and a video clip. After that the students will demonstrate their understanding by annotating a diagram. Next, pupils will annotate a diagram of the water cycle in the rainforest. After that a video clip and a range of diagrams about the nutrient cycle is included. Students should interpret these independently to create their own nutrient cycle diagram. Finally, there is a quiz to test the pupils knowledge of what they have learned. All resources are provided at the end of the PowerPoint presentation.

GCSE 9-1; Ecosystems - biomes carousel

This is part of a series of lessons on ecosystems available as a bundle. The lesson starts by defining biomes. The students next task is to take part in a carousel. It sets out expectations for the quality of the notes and provides an easy and a hard note taking sheet. The resources contain a variety information including maps, graphs, diagrams, photos and text. They resources are differentiated with black writing for everyone to take notes from, black and purple for slightly more able and black, purple and green for the most able. When note taking has been completed there is a modelled opportunity for peer/self assessment. Finally, there is an examination question with mark scheme and suggestions for other ways in which the students could be questioned. This provides the opportunity for undertaking examination question next lesson, after the students have learned the information for homework.

Lesson 4: Where do people live in Africa? - KS3 Geography Africa Unit 2017

Begin with: - A review of colonisation of Africa H/W and collect in worksheet. Then: 1. Pre-starter task: pupils think about the factors that determines where people choose to live (environmental, economic, social and political reasons) 2. Pupils write down and match up the keywords and definitions. 3. Discuss what a choropleth map is and how the population density is calculated. 4. Pupils create their own choropleth map using population data on Africa. 5. Once complete, pupils interpret their map, describing the population density in Africa and suggesting possible reasons for this distribution. 6. Pupils attempt extension questions related to their pathway. 7. Plenary – odd one out (sparsely/densely) H/W: Pupils to compete the map / extension questions if it isn’t completed in class. An improvement to the lesson designed to incorporate exam assessment. The aim of the lessons (usually 2) is to peer assess the presentations designed by the students. The starter activity is an assessment on the homework relating to the WWF page on carbon dioxide emissions. Alternatively, or use this as a second starter in lesson 2, you can use Geography Hangman. The peer assessment sheet is attached. I have provided a modelled example on the IWB slide whereby students take facts to build up knowledge on each of the 7 impacts of climate change and then RAG the students presenting. I have provided extension questions for the students seen below: Research the rise in sea level (page 60-61). Describe a social and environmental impact that results from rising sea level. [4 marks] Explain two ways in which people are affected by climate change (see you research and the one for sea level or other example) [4]. These have a mark scheme and ANSWERS for the student to self assess. Similarly, I have added a slide here with additional questions about Carbon Dioxide Emissions with ANSWERS to further develop students knowledge. The plenary is Taboo (sheet attached) and key word catch to test new literacy from this topic.

The lesson has been improved to further support the learners within my care in answering exam questions and include exam ANSWERS. The aim of this lesson is to split the students into groups for ICT work for the main. I usually give the students a couple of lessons and access to the OCR B textbook and the internet. The settler task as the students enter the room is to answer the following questions: Describe the distributions of CO² tonnes for 0-2 and over 20. [4] This can be seen opposite and includes SUCCESS CRITERIA that I go through with them. The next slide has the ANSWERS to peer assess. The starter task is linked to the homework, which can be done if you are starting the lesson in the ICT room. The students log on the the WWF page to test their families carbon footprint. I test this the following lesson in an assessment. The mini-plenary is a cartoon which assesses previous learning [PLEASE SEE LESSON 8] and includes the 3 mark question: Using the ideas from last lesson, discuss the cartoon and its meanings below. Who do you think is to blame for the enhanced greenhouse effect? [3]. ANSWERS are provided. The main task is students to create a PowerPoint, Prezi or alternative presentation on one of the 7 impacts of climate change. They use the OCR B textbook to read through and then use the internet to find additional facts. This is peer assessed in three lessons time. PLEASE SEE LESSON 11. The group work should take approximately a lesson and a half to design. I have provided extension questions or the students seen below: Research the rise in sea level (page 60-61). Year 8 Spring-Summer SOW 2017 Development 7) Ghana Timeline WITH ANSWERS

The lesson looks at the precise timeline in which has led to Ghana being underdeveloped. It uses the Geog.3 book page 10-15 but all materials are provided on the link here needed for the lesson. The textbook can be used as an accompaniment. The settler task works on map skills of interpretation by listing 5 countries are LIDCs. Throughout the lesson the students can assess their own learning using the LO checklist (seen opposite). The starter activity is watching the video link and listing the products that Ghana sell. This is a competition. The main watches a video link attached with targeted questions and then follows with a timeline for Ghana task with worksheets and displays needed attached. The development task is a sales pitch whereby groups of students sell their knowledge on barriers to Ghana's development. This can be used as a metacognitive strategy. I have also attached a Bob Gedolf video about Ghana is you wish to provided for homework or a greater depth of knowledge. The plenary is the game I created, a 'Million Sweet Drop Live' using sweets where groups of students place all sweets on the matrix for the correct question they have 20 seconds to guess to correct answer.
