Planning a new AQA GCSE answer on a Christmas Carol.

A collection of 4 papers and grid sheet for students to find techniques. I then asked students to select two and compare. Part of a sample answer and sheet with sentence openers is also attached,

1-2 hr masterclass to go over essentials around regional variation for Section A of paper 7702. Includes revision of theory (A02) and A01 terminology. Students then have a go at answering the sample questions. Mark schemes on AQA website.

PP will last up to 2 weeks depending on class ability and how long you want to spend on developing writing and peer assessing. The skills numbers match up to Doddle skills however these could easily be changed as the skills are very universal. Focus on improving vocabulary and peer/ self assessment. Images are emotive focusing on 9/11, war and Chernobyl.

Student must use extended metaphor to develop a piece of writing. Includes examples and materials for a class model. I used a Life of Pi clip to engage students.

AQA English Language Paper 1A questions focusing on Nicholas Nickleby extract. Used as part of a unit named “An Introduction to 19C literature” looking at both lang and lit skills. The PP and activities lasted me 4-5 lessons. Covers some context Extract available from AQA website in KS3 resource pack under teaching materials

An introduction to Nativism and Chomsky. Includes A01 and A02 information- Wug Test, Poverty of stimulus, inborn faculty. Transcript activity.

An introduction to lexical and semantic development. Looks at holophrases, Nelson, Rescorla, Aitchison. Various activities along the way to check understanding including looking at a small transcript.

An extract with questions designed at encouraging students to consider context, audience and use of terminology more. This was used with a mid-high ability Y7 class following an assessment on the blank extract. This meant that students could show progress.

A range of writing tasks looking at the skills needed for AQA paper 2B. These include topics such as healthy eating, death penalty and identity. Could potentially last a number of weeks.

A detailed LTP for co-teaching Edexcel English Language A-Level. A good starting point for anybody who is new to the course.

Excel spreadsheet ready to use with 2018 grade boundaries. This was used throughout Year 12 as coursework module is Y13.

Lesson starters. I used these after the holidays to check that students had been revising. Can be used for any exam board. Emphasis on low stakes testing.

Lessons for walking through Act 4 Scene 1 and 2 taught to LA Y11.

Macbeth Act 5 walk through with LA. Between the slides we read and annotated. This was used to walk through Act 5 quickly in preparation for a formative assessment. Includes work on the tragic hero.

Lesson (or may last for more) looking at the features of travel writing. Was used with Y12 Edexcel student though could have other uses.

Lesson using show not tell as part of a scheme on dystopian writing.
