Lots of different ways into the poetry set in the anthology. Also opportunities to weave in writing skills provided. This scheme helped my top set 10s gain independence when exploring the poetry and the examples provided allowed them to understand how to structure and complete high level responses. I've also included some of their class notes which are quite illuminating!

This lesson is perfect to consolidate pupils' understanding of the text after they have completed their reading of the entire novella. Pupils are challenged to create an open question to ask Scrooge. They then have to answer a selection of questions from Scrooge's perspective at the start and end of the novella. There are examples of responses students should be aiming for further inspiration!

This lesson focuses on a scene from stave 3 where the Ghost of Christmas Present introduces Scrooge to the entire Cratchit family. Pupils are encouraged to consider their own associations with Christmas, complete a quick fire round of questions that can be used in a speed dating fashion before empathising with one of the Cratchits by completing a diary entry from their perspective.

A lesson focussing on the EDUQAS/WJEC spec where pupils are expected to discuss an extract from A Christmas Carol before 'exploding' it by linking to other parts of the text. This lesson has worked particularly well with a low ability year 10 group to chunk the various stage of approaching the question - forming points based upon the extract, selecting and retrieving evidence and linking to other parts of the novella.

Inspire by Bloom's Taxonomy! A handy pupil friendly Bloom's Taxonomy guide is included to help pupils develop their questioning and can easily be adapted to any section of the text or even another text altogether! I've used this lesson format on a number of different texts and it works every time, saving teacher input and also cutting marking by allowing pupils to respond to their peers' questions!

A lesson that encourages pupils to create their own quotation revision guide following the EDUQAS/WJEC closed book specifications. There are a variety of quotations taken from the text for quick fire starters.

A fun filled lesson that introduces pupils to the main themes and characters of the novel. Challenges include selecting and retrieving background information from around the classroom, exploring a selection of the novel's most famous book covers and sequencing the story using images prior to reading a brief summary.

A perfect follow on from the Macbeth introduction mini-scheme! These lessons see pupils begin to explore the text of Shakespeare's Macbeth in an independent manner through the use of board-games and Who Wants to be a Millionaire tasks. Also included are creative writing tasks to suit a wide range of abilities with various degrees of challenge included. In addition to this, well chosen extracts and guides to creating higher level PEEZL paragraphs are also explored. All resources included.

A creative writing lesson which focuses on encouraging pupils to use a wide range of sentence openers and sentence types in order to address structure. Also included are three different creative writing tasks with differentiated levels of challenge for pupils to choose from. The lesson culminates in a peer-assessment which will help to lessen that marking workload!

A simple and chunked lesson which encourages lower ability pupils to explore language at word level through a series of activities based around the device of foreshadowing. A scaffolded worksheet, extract and modelled example are all included to support pupils' learning.

A chunked lesson which allows lower ability pupils the chance to explore the character of Marley in relation to the gothic elements of the text. Pupils work in pairs to analyse a popular image of Marley before they explore the many elements that feature in traditional gothic texts and are also present in this passage of A Christmas Carol. Pupils then work on the selected extract to delve into language which fits the gothic genre.

A chunked lesson for lower ability pupils that allows them to explore the character of Scrooge as he is initially portrayed in the text. All resources are included which feature plenty of differentiation to allow pupils to gain support and challenge depending upon their individual ability. Lots of modelling also takes place and there is plenty of scope for discussion which proves very popular when consolidating the ideas of lower ability pupils.

A lesson which focuses on Oliver's early experiences in the workhouse and in particular on the famous scene where he asks for more gruel. Pupils work on recalling persuasive devices by using an interactive game on the whiteboard before reading this key scene. Students are then challenged to imagine they are one of Oliver's peers and must try their very best to persuade Oliver to ask the daring question of the beadle. A handy peer-assessment plenary also helps to save on teacher feedback and marking!

Pupils explore patois within poetry. Pupils are challenged to explore images and create links, examine the use of patois in Rihanna's 'Work', before exploring Linton Kwesi Johnson's poem, Sonny's Lettah independently. All resources included.

A way of preparing lower ability students for an 'Explode the Extract' style question in line with the EDUQAS/WJEC exam board. Pupils will be provided with an A3 timeline that they work on for the duration of the lesson. This will allow them to simultaneously recap on the novella and create a handy revision aid in an independent manner. Worked perfectly for a lower ability year 10 group in the run up to the Christmas holidays and could work equally as well after the break to re-jog memories! Could also be set as homework or revision or work perfectly for a cover lesson.

An anti-bullying lesson created for an SMSC session with a form group. Lots of chances for whole class discussions, references to bullying in popular culture and two creative activities to engage learners and help them consider this all important topic.
