Utlilitarianism: application of Bentham's Hedonic Calculus

(0)
It is sometimes hard to assess the success of the hedonic calculus. For years my colleagues and I found it hard to get pupils to reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of the hedonic calculus. This resource aims to change this. Pupils are given the worksheet in order to see how simple, yet how time consuming and contradictory this theory is. It works a treat - especially for homework. Great for A02 focus.

Natural Moral Law theory - Ethics

This is a PPT which includes a comprehensive inclusion of every part of the Natural Law Theory that would be needed to be taught up to A Level. It has been used with legacy and new examination specifications. The PPT includes 3 separate learning objectives which can be used in 2 or 3 different lessons if needed: 1. To explain Natural Moral Law as a theory of ethics 2. To analyse the usefulness of NML in the modern day context of ethical behaviour 3. To evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of Natural Moral Law This lesson has been graded outstanding.

Life after death - Hindu and Muslim religious views lesson

(0)
This lesson was designed as a one stop, task driven lesson. See below for a brief plan of the lesson. The resources include a PPT as well as Hindu and Muslim information sheet. The PPT should be worked through, but the main task is the pupils will be given a set of information and will have to work through the reading and highlight important points. They will note these down and teach them to others on the table. The teacher will then go over this at the end to assess learning.

The intro to Ethical theory (Explained by the ill fated legend of Abi and Joe)

This incredibly well used resource is a fantastic way for budding ethicists to understand the major factors underpinning ethical theory. The PPT tells the story of Abi and Joe (in an interactive manner!). Abi, driven by acts surrounding motive and not rule or consequence ends up falling into trouble and other characters act in seemingly contentious ways because of their focus of moral thinking. In the time I have been teaching this, teachers, parents and pupils have commented on it's clarity and usefulness. I hope you agree!

Violence and Evil lesson

This lesson is designed for a short look at the concept of violence and can be used alongside my other lesson on 'what makes people go wrong?'. This has been a helpful lesson over the years and stimulates creative ideas from pupils as it is aimed for this function.
