Musical/multi sensory story for Special Needs for KS 1/ - PMLD SLD ASD The sun is down, the moon is up, and it’s past bedtime. But outside the castle there’s an awful lot of noise! Will the princess ever get to sleep? Winner of the British Book Award when it was first published in 1993 This is a dramatic interactive story. The emphasis is to create atmosphere and tension through the music, light and staff participation. I have given clear guidance on how to structure the session, including music recommendations and necessary stimuli and props required. This sensory story is laid out in a simple format of: Do, Say, Play and additional info In each category it tells the teacher what staff are doing, what the teacher is saying, and what music is playing. Each ‘scene’ is threaded together using the text/rhyme from the story. The story has an obvious build-up of tension where pupils have opportunities to express their excitement and anticipation. I am a Drama teacher with over 20 years’ experience teaching SEN including PMLD SLD MLD and ASD. Unlike many sensory stories I focus upon creating tension and atmosphere through light, shadows, music, sound effects and staff call and response. I am new to posting resources on TES but please keep an eye out for more dramatic interactive stories.
