The sheet helps them to focus on specific aspects of the film rather then becoming immersed in the plot and supports them in the making of useful notes. This sheet is also very useful when it comes to the end of term and you want to show a film but don't want learners (or passing colleagues!) to think they've been given a free lesson. A fully adaptable action plan aimed at preparing Year 11 for their GCSE exams. Using the theme of a military operation briefing, there is space to provide details of previous assessments, group targets and individual targets as well as space for dates of mock and external exams. A useful way of focusing Y11s on what they need to do in order to succeed. Originally devised as a resource for GCSE English, but could be adapted for any subject or any year group. Resource includes a Publisher and a Powerpoint version with both a partially completed example and a completely blank one for you to personalise. I've also included a quick teachers' notes section explaining what each section refers to.

A lesson following the TEEP planning cycle which looks at alliteration in poetry then moves on to support learners in writing their own alliterative sentences which can be put together to produce a class poem. Includes lesson plan, power point and all the resources for a creative and engaging lesson

A lovely lesson looking at Scrooge's character at the beginning of the novel, identifying quotations and developing PEE paragraphs. Learners use PEE to build a paper-chain of Scrooge's bad deeds similar to Marley's Ghost's chain in the novel, which can then be used as a classroom display and referred to as part of revision work. A booklet with a range of reading activities based on aspects of historical and social contexts of Macbeth. Activities develop reading skills while providing contextual information including James I, witchcraft and the Gunpowder Plot. At the end of the booklet is a reading assessment in the style of the new GCSE exams (WJEC).

A calendar (generic dates for easy re-use) with a different literacy focus for each month. Each month has a different focus with examples and a space for different curriculum areas to add their own subject specific example or usage. An ideal way to promote literacy across the curriculum ensuring consistency while showing that literacy is applicable to all subjects.

A power point and accompanying booklet aimed at developing writing for a range of non-fiction purposes including information, explanation, instruction, recount, persuasion and argument. Activities include reading examples and identifying features of the different purposes, planning own writing with a range of tasks to choose from, independent writing, peer assessment and improvement all with a football theme. Booklet was created using Microsoft Publisher but, following some feedback, I have also adapted it into a Word document for anyone without Publisher.

A range of group work activities with an English/Literacy focus themed around the TV programme: The Apprentice. Learners work in groups to complete challenges over the course of a week, then meet in the board room to present their final product and discuss how well they worked together. Teams can be changed for each challenge as necessary. Firing is purely optional!!
