Revision on column addition and subtraction (carrying and borrowing) and long division with remainders. These sheets are used for a review of basic techniques and question types before looking at worded or multi-step problems using these methods.

Pirate Treasure Long Division

Fun and engaging long division worksheet (single digit by 2-3 digit, mixed with and without remainders) with problems getting harder as you work through the sheet! Students must solve the long division problems to eliminate possible places Scurvy Sam’s treasure is buried, with the last place left being where the treasure is! Both word and PDF versions included, so sheet can be modified to include more/ less questions, or a different topic.

PowerPoint and group investigation activity used with my set 3 year 9s. This lesson was used after they were familiar with expanding single brackets and needed a bigger challenge to stretch their problem solving and lateral thinking skills. Turn it into a competition for a more fun lesson!

CODEBREAKER Substituting into Expressions

Made for very unmotivated set 4 year 8s to practise substituting into an expression. Print the second slide so students all have a copy, and keep your slide up on the board so once they’ve had a go you can talk through answers together. First slide is to demo how to solve the activity.
