Graphs, maps and their analysis feature heavily in GCSE geography papers and examinations across all specifications. I put this handy wall display guide together to help my GCSE Geography students identify and describe the most common types of graphs and maps that they may see in the paper 3 examinations. It also gives a brief overview of the advantages and disadvantages of each type of display method- something students often struggle to articulate. It helped middle ability students picks up easy marks in their paper 3 fieldwork examinations and also made a great addition to classroom displays for open evenings and parent’s evenings. I hope you enjoy it! As this is a FREE resource please consider buying a copy of my ebook ’ Time Smart Teaching; 8 Insider Tips that Schools Don’t tell you!

I have picked out 4 separate exam questions from the AQA GCSE Geography specimen papers with the mark scheme attached for mock exam practise. Student must be familiar with statistical analysis and be able to interpret and draw conclusions from unfamiliar data sets. This counts towards the numeracy strands assessed in the new curriculum framework.

This series of activities gets students to use their maps, graphs and numeracy skills to learn about the Rio Olympic Games in 2016. It can be done as a lesson using the powerpoint slides or set as a homework activity using the publisher document and printing in large A3 size. The posters look fantastic on display and is sure to gain attention from SLT and ofsted while you develop cross curricular links with maths. On the poster there is a simply AFL tool- teachers can circle or tick whether the work gets bronze, silver or gold award. Ideal for any Ks3 grouop- originally written for year 8.
