A 5 part course in Outdoor First Aid. The course was developed in-line with teachings from the 16hr Level 3 Outdoor First Aid Course, NHS Guidelines and is supplemented by links to videos by St John’s Ambulance. Due to the rapid pace of covering topics in 5x1hr sessions, It is not a qualification in itself, however it does cover the basics with up to date information (as of 2025). You are then welcome to expand with practice resources such as CPR dummies, bandaging practice and ‘Choking Charlie’.

The pack contains a main ppt presentation as well as 30 scenarios. Each lesson is given a “content warning” with three levels, Red (images of injury, sometimes including small amounts of blood), Amber (discussion injury detail without images), Green (limited/no discussion of specific injury detail except in scenario acting).

The 5 sessions are:
Session 1 – Purpose of First Aid, ABC Primary Survey, CPR
Session 2 – ABCD Primary survey, Alertness (AVPU), Shock, Bleeds
Session 3 – Common Injuries: Blisters, Burns, Soft tissue, Bones/limbs, Head, Choking, Decision tree, scenarios
Session 4 – ABCDE, Secondary Survey (SAMPLE), Monitoring, Scenario practise
Session 5 – Climatic Injury, Illness, Scenario practise
optional session 6 with further scenario practice can be easily added.

ABCDE refers to Asses/ Alertness/ Airway/ Assistance - Breathing - Circulation - Damage/ Decisions - Emotional support/ Effectiveness/ Evacuation/ Environmental Concerns. A more elaborate version of the old DR.ABC

The scenario cards all involve “real-world” situations that are tailored to DofE groups, but still cover all of the main injury/illness types that may come up. Everything from Tent peg through the foot to handing the onset of period pains.
The set contains responders cards (outline of the scenario) and actors cards (giving the full details of the injury, how the casualty is likely to present themselves or deteriorate, as well as any expected first aid treatment).
