This Geography lesson is designed to introduce children to the different features found in human settlements. It is part of a KS2 Geography unit, called Great Missenden, designed for teaching about a contrasting UK locality.
The presentation introduces children to the concept of settlements and asks them to categorise them by size (house, hamlet, village, town, city, conurbation). It then introduces them to the variety of human features found in settlements, from post offices to shopping centres to sports stadia.
In the activity, children first identify the features of settlements. The extension then challenges them to identify the different human features found in villages, towns and cities.
