A lesson aimed at KS3 learners. I have used this to review vocabulary seen in previous lessons on the same topic. I wouldn’t use this lesson to introduce vocabulary but to reinforce learning.
The lesson contains
A starter: a picture of the catacombs, students would need to complete a sentence and find two adjectives to describe how they felt when seeing the catacombs for the first time. I also showed my class a very short video using You tube on my first slide but I had to delete it for copyright reasons.
Task 1: Bubble translation game
I then used a bubble game to review vocabulary. How to play:
Print numbers up to 15 for a class of 30 students (so you will need 2 sets of the same number).
Give 2 students the same number then the game can start:
When they see their number on the slide, they had to stand up and translate the sentence from French to English. The fastest to translate wins. All my classes loved this game, but it can become a little noisy. A little fun cannot hurt sometimes!
Task 2: Match cards /you would need to have the card printed, cut and laminated
Extension: Translate 5 cards from French to English in their exercise book
Task 3: Use the pictures on the slide and give out to students. They will need to write about a past visit to Paris, let them use pictures and label them using past tense sentences or they could use the story board. In my lesson, the boys used the story board and the girls cut out the pictures to illustrate their sentences and wrote extensively.
This is a lesson aimed at learners who require a variety of ‘hands on’ activities in class.
