Why is multiplying by zero, zero? Is there a rule?

Zero is lonely. He can’t play Addemup with the other numbers, because he has nothing to add. What’s a digit to do Will zero be able to find his place in the land of Digitaria? Will he find a way to be used and become a Zero Hero? This lesson with supporting resources for LKS2 accompanies the Maths picture book ‘A Place for Zero’ by Angeline Sparagna LoPresti, and looks at multiplying by zero and zero’s place value in math.

A fun, practical fusion of reading comprehension and Maths, the children will be super engaged with this funny book and leading their own investigations to create their own ‘digit machine’. Very little resources needed for this lesson - just a book and some imagination!
