As a tutor, I’ve been doing this simple task with my tutor group. Summary:

  • Students fill the same questionnaire after each academic year
  • It is important to make a reflexion of the year, both in the academic and in the personal aspects of their lives.
  • I staple them together and give it to them at the end of Y11 as a goodbye present.

All you need to do is to print one questionnaire per person (as many students as you have in your tutor form) and they have to fill it in at the end of each year (I like to do it at the beginning of July, so I make sure everyone is there and if they are missing they day we do it they still have days after that to make sure they fill it in).
Then I collect them all and at the end of year 11 I staple all the 5 together (Y7 to Y11) in a small booklet and I hand it to them. I like to explain them how we all change, how we are not the same person when we were 11 years old than what we are now, and how we will not be the same in 5, 20 or 50 years time. It is an important reminder that the problems we have don’t last forever, that what seems so important now, might not be in the future, that the things we value now might not be there so we need to remember to enjoy them. In conclusion, that time passes for the better or the worst, and that it is something we can always count on. It is nice to look back and see how much we have changed.

It is quick, easy, fun, and they always love writing about it.
