A PowerPoint that can be used as a starter over several different days or as an entire lesson. Twelve songs from the time of the Civil Rights Movement or about equality, with information about each, to spark discussion. Additional document includes lyrics of all the songs. 5 Competition
This resources raises awareness of the achievements of Black British people. Posters with information about 30 different heroes can be placed around school. Students then need to find the posters and, using their answer sheet, write in the names Resources includes people like:

  • Baroness Rosalind Howells (Labour member of the House of Lords)
  • Wilfred Wood (Bishop of Croydon from 1985 to 2003, the first black bishop in the Church of England)
  • Benjamin Zephaniah (A British writer who was included in The Times list of Britain’s top 50 post-war writers)
  • Mary Seacole (Funded her own trip to Crimea in 1854 to nurse wounded British soldiers on the battlefield)
