KS3 level introduction to structure. First lesson focuses on how punctuation and sentence length communicate feeling and atmosphere to the reader. Includes scaffolded writing models that increase in depth of explanation. Uses short extracts from Anthony Horowitz’s ‘Stormbreaker’ and Lucy Maud Montgomery’s ‘Anne of Green Gables’. Second lesson builds on this to look at the relationship between structure and genre, through tension. Uses tension graphs and extracts including John Grisham’s ‘The Firm’, Len Deighton’s ‘The Ipcress File’ and Kate Morton’s ‘The House at Riverton’ as well the ‘Black Panther’ trailer. Builds on analysis skils towards evaluation.
