The powerpoint introduces the context of the children being asked by a building supplies company to help them with designing buildings for a new town being built near them.
(Remember to change the name of your primary school on slides 1,2,4.
The children then have differentiated tasks to complete in order to calculate the perimeter and area of rooms, using written methods of multiplication to reinforce the skill.
'Red team' being the lower ability group have a floor plan, to measure the perimeter and then calculate the area. Their multiplication numbers are based around known times table facts but still require some written methods of multiplication.
Yellow group have written multiplication to complete to calculate perimeter and area.
Green group have similar with the extension to calculate how much things will cost in the rooms, so introducing money into the multiplication calculations.
