A complete lesson, PowerPoint and resources for a unit on DESCRIPTIVE WRITING (winter themed) in Upper KS2 (Year 6) Although part of a scheme, it is also able to be taught as a standalone lesson.

The lesson focuses on how to describe a setting or character precisely, by using SHOWING NOT TELLING

The class explore these by looking at extracts together, before going onto try the techniques for themselves.

This is lesson 4 in a series of 8. The whole scheme of work is also available as a bundle The planning for the whole unit of work is included in each individual lesson.

The whole scheme includes a cold and a hot task, and culminates in the class writing the cold task again as a hot task - in order to demonstrate progress.
This scheme was incredibly engaging and produced brilliant pieces of writing.
