Deserts: Challenges

• READY TO TEACH (LESSON 5/8 - DESERTS).

This lesson requires the use of the blue AQA Oxford textbook.

Discuss the section of the syllabus taught during today’s lesson (slide 2). Describe the geographical location of the Thar desert. Pupils complete the card sort, linking each challenge of development with its potential effect. Pupils may self-assess their answers before being glued in their book (slide 5). Pupils answer the GCSE question by referring to information on page 73 of the textbook. Pupils can complete the extension task, linked to the card sort activity. As a plenary task, recap with pupils a range of images linked to deserts. Pupils must decide whether the image conveyed on the board is a challenge of living in a desert environment or an opportunity.
