This activity allows students to explore efficient strategies for all four operations - addition, subtraction, multiplication and division - in different contexts.
Students will work together to create flow charts for each operation (e.g. an addition flowchart) to help someone decide which is the most efficient strategy for different contexts.
Once the flow charts have been created, students then place the 9 cards on the flowcharts and solve the word problems and calculations.
This activity also comes with an additional challenge to provoke higher order reasoning and develop mathematical thinking.
