This lesson covers the some of defences used to prevent river flooding. It is ideal for any KS3 study of rivers or flooding however, it can be adapted for a low level GCSE group. Key facts about the lesson are:

1. The lesson starts with a recap of some of the effects of a river flooding and finishes with a crossword activity designed to recap the main flood defences learnt in the lesson.

2. There are two main new pieces of learning; one covers the different hard and soft defences used along some rivers and the other is a case study of the Thames flood barrier.

3. The lesson has a variety of learning activities; diagrams, a quiz, video clips and a crossword activity.

4. It's a complete lesson with all the resources you need to deliver it - a starter, learning activities, handouts, plenary etc. All you will need is the ppt which can be downloaded, then just teach!
