Looking for different ways to help students, I saw on Twitter the idea of a ladder reflecting elements needed for grades.
It starts with an easy present tense sentence and finishes with a sentence which includes an indirect object pronoun.
It can be used at the start of a lesson, to test how much students know on a particular subject or can be given as homework for students to work independently.

Content is based on Pearson Edexcel’s GCSE theme 1:

  • Who am I? (pages 1-7) = Relationships; when I was younger; what my friends and family are like; what makes a good friend; interests; socialising with friends and family; role models
  • Daily life (pages 8-11) = Customs and everyday life; food and drink; shopping; social media and technology (use of, advantages and disadvantages)
  • Cultural life (pages 12-16) = Celebrations and festivals; reading; music; sport; film and television
