Geography Cover Lesson: River Features

A ready-to-use KS3 Geography cover lesson introducing students to the key features of a river and drainage basin.
Students work independently through a range of engaging activities, including:

• River Features Diagram – identify and label key river features from source to mouth.
• River Journey – put river features into a likely sequence from the source to the mouth.
• Waterfall Challenge – label a waterfall formation diagram and explain how waterfalls retreat to create gorges.
• Erosion & Deposition – identify features formed by erosion and deposition.
• River Features Word Search – find 20 key river terms, with a secret word challenge.
• Colouring activities throughout to reinforce key geographical vocabulary.
  The lesson covers important KS3 terminology including source, watershed, tributary, confluence, meander, oxbow lake, floodplain, waterfall, gorge, estuary and mouth.
