Year 1 Geography Plan and Resources for the topic ‘Geography of Our School Grounds’.

This unit includes sessions covering Human and Physical Features, Map Work and directional vocabulary.

The resource includes:
- Unit plan covering six sessions
- PowerPoint covering the six sessions
- Worksheets
- Quiz, Quiz, Trade Game for Human and Physical Features
- Plans include highlighted opportunities for Oracy, a glossary explaining
Oracy terms used and list of resources for each session

Learning Objectives:

  1. To observe and talk about the geography of our school
  2. To know the difference between human and physical features.
  3. To identify human and physical features in the school grounds.
  4. To know the purpose and function of a map to locate specific areas.
    To describe a route using a prepared, simple map of the school grounds.
  5. To be able to read a map of school and draw a map of school.
  6. To understand and use directional language e.g. left, right, next to, near and
    far, north, east, south, west.

Please note, due to this unit being about the school grounds, any aerial photos and maps of the school grounds in the PowerPoints and Worksheets will need to be changed to ones of your own school grounds.
