Grocery Store

  1. Grocery Store Scavenger Hunt Materials: Pictures of common grocery items, grocery store shelves, or items in your home.

How to Play: Print out or cut out pictures of various grocery items (fruits, vegetables, snacks, etc.).

Hide the pictures around the house or set up a “grocery store” in the living room with different sections (produce, dairy, snacks, etc.).

Give the children a list of items they need to find or ask them to pick specific categories (e.g., “Find something healthy!” or “Find something you can drink!”). The child who finds the most items on their list in a set time wins.

  1. Supermarket Sorting Game Materials: Small containers, grocery item cards (or small toy food items).

How to Play: Create categories for food (fruits, vegetables, dairy, snacks, etc.). Spread out toy food items or pictures of food items on the floor. Ask the children to sort the items into the right categories (e.g., all fruits together, all dairy products together). You can time them to see who sorts the fastest or give them clues to make it more challenging.

  1. Grocery Store Role-Play Materials: Toy food, cash register (optional), shopping baskets, price tags.

How to Play: Set up a “store” in the living room using toy food, baskets, and a cash register (or a pretend one). One child plays the cashier while the others are shoppers. The shoppers select items to “buy” and take them to the cashier. The cashier “rings up” the items and tells the shopper the total cost (you can use play money). This game can teach basic math skills, such as counting and addition, while also allowing kids to engage in imaginative play.

  1. Grocery Memory Match Materials: Cards with pictures of grocery items (two of each item).

How to Play: Lay the cards face down on the floor or table. Players take turns flipping over two cards at a time, trying to find matching items (e.g., two pictures of apples). The player who finds the most matches wins. This game can help with memory and matching skills.
