This is a lesson on halal and haram created for KS3 classes. It’s therefore suitable for Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 lessons. It can be adapted slightly to also be suitable for GCSE classes, depending on the knowledge required for the exam board. Within this pack you will receive:

1 x PowerPoint
2 x worksheets

I have created this lesson as part of an ‘Islam and the Media’ topic, it therefore contains details about what the terms halal and haram mean, references to Islamophobia and how Islam is portrayed in the media.
This pack contains a detailed PowerPoint which is informative to students and instructions for teachers to follow. It also contains a worksheet for students to complete which will help them familiarise themselves with what is halal and haram in Islam. The lesson then focuses on what makes meat halal (this includes an optional video). Next, there is an opportunity to explore how halal meat is portrayed in the media. Students are then able to demonstrate their knowledge from the entire lesson by creating a newspaper article. I have included an article template which students are able to use. Finally, there is a quiz round where students can practice their knowledge of halal and haram.

I have created all of these resources and sourced all of the videos. I have used these resources many times during my teaching and have had several observations while using them - it has always been a great success.
