Pupils will use basic hand tools to create a birdhouse that requires now fixtures or adhesive. This simple contemporary design means that pupils will be able to create and assemble there own birdhouse ready to take home. This resource includes the booklet that we have been using with our year 7 groups as well as the cutting files that we have used to produce the materials for pupils to cut using a coping saw. We recommend using 3mm Plywood but there is no reason that this wouldn’t work with 3mm MDF either. This booklet includes:
- Grade descriptors
- Flight path documents
- Baseline assessments for prior knowledge
- Design brief and specification worksheets
- Homework tasks
- Step by step instructions for build
- Tips on filing and cutting the material
- Design tasks
- Evaluation sheets
- Assessment sheets

We recommend 10 lessons to complete the project and the resources can be varied to suit your needs. I hope you find this helpful and as fun to teach as I do.
