This resource is aimed at strong KS3 students and KS4 students.
The resource consists of a presentation and a worksheet. Worked solutions to the questions on the worksheet are included in the presentation.
The lesson starts with a revision of finding Highest Common Factors (HCF) and Lowest Common Multiples (LCM).
In order to explain why HCFs are used, an example investigate the different ways two groups of different numbers can be divided so as to produce identical groups.
Similar investigations show why LCMs are used to find when three events of different periodicity are repeated at the same instant.
Students then answer two questions in which they have to determine whether the solution requires the HCF or the LCM.
The lesson is completed by a worksheet of 12 questions.
