This is an introduction to solving an equation with a single missing variable. The PowerPoint starts with a refresher on negative numbers with some diagnostic questions (so whiteboards might be required). It then moves on to solving an equations. It uses tiles to give a visual representation.
There are two worksheets, both with the same questions. The first worksheet is for those students who might need guidance on solving these equations, the second one just has the questions. Both conclude with an open ended style question.
There is also an exit card to enable assessment on understanding in the lesson.
