These are Powerpoint resources and therefore can be used as a whole-class activity on the board or printed out and utilised as worksheets for children to work on individually or in small groups.

These are suitable for KS1 lessons or KS2 intervention and have been differentiated to use with attainment levels as appropriate. The resources can be edited if you wish to personalise them further.

  • Money 1: Children are to draw the coins needed to reach the total. Alternatively they can write the numbers, e.g., 5p+5p+1p.
  • Money 2: Children are to draw the coins needed (in ONLY 1ps, 2ps, etc., depending on the question) to reach the total.
  • Money 3: Children are to draw the coins needed (any value) to reach the total. It may be useful to extend the children’s learning by asking them if there are alternative ways to reach the total.
  • Money 4: Children are to write the number value of the coins, e.g., 16p.
  • Money 5: Children are to write the pence value of the pounds value. It may be useful to explain the decimal point moving two places or multiplying by 100. The following activity in Money 5 is the same but working the opposite way.
  • Money 6: Encourage children to show their working and talk you through their thought process.
  • Money 7: Encourage children to make up their own creative questions. Who can challenge their work partner the most?
  • Money 8: Children have to halve the “Old Price” to come up with the “New Price”. This could be extended further by telling the children they have a “three quarters off sale” and encouraging them to halve the original price then halve again to find the new price.
  • Money 9: Children have to add together the coins then write the number value in the price tags.
