Lesson Overview / Structure:
Lesson 1 – Create a winter landscape bauble using colour mixing techniques. Learn about tints, shades, and layering to make a gradient background and add a collaged character.
Lesson 2 – Design a patterned bird inspired by Keith Baker’s Big Fat Hen. Use oil or chalk pastels to create layered patterns and textures for ‘three French hens’ from the song Twelve Days of Christmas.
Lesson 3 – Make a snowglobe that represents the magic of Christmas. Use various brushstrokes and stippling techniques to add detail, inspired by the John Lewis ‘Man on the Moon’ advert.
Lesson 4 – Create a four-season calendar. Sketch trees and use different materials to represent the changing colours of leaves across Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.
Lesson 5 – Learn about the history of Christmas cards and design a modern Christmas tree card using simple paper strips.
Lesson 6 – Discover the history of wreaths and create a hand-print wreath to decorate the classroom.
Lesson 7 – Create an origami advent calendar with personalised messages of kindness, inspiration, or jokes to take home.
